Why Mother's Day is Celebrated on Different Dates?
Mother’s Day is celebrated around the globe with fun and festivities but not all countries celebrate it on the same date. In U.S.A, Australia, Canada and some other countries, it is celebrated on second Sunday in the month of May and although this is the most popular date, it is not in unison with other countries. Here are few examples where Mother’s Day is celebrated on a different date than U.S.A:
Why Dates are Different in Different Countries?
Every country has its own story for celebrating Mother’s Day on a particular day. In U.K, it is attributed to Mothering Sunday while in U.S.A, the credit goes to Anna Jarvis. Many countries took in U.S tradition and date for celebrating Mother’s Day. Norway is the only country celebrating the day in February. No matter what the reason is, it is always good to have a day dedicated to a woman who has done more for us than anybody else.
1. United Kingdom
In the United Kingdom, Mother’s Day is celebrated exactly three weeks before Easter Sunday.
2. Norway
Norway celebrates mothers and motherhood on second Sunday of February.
3. U.A.E
21st March marks the celebration of Mother’s Day in U.A.E along with few other countries.
4. Russia
Russia, along with some other countries, amalgamates the celebration with International Women’s Day, I.e. 8th March.
5. South Korea
Instead of Mother’s Day, South Korea celebrates “Parent’s Day” on 8th May. While in most countries, Mother’s Day is a Sunday or a working day, countries such as Samoa, Costa Rica and Thailand observe a public holiday on Mother’s Day.
